Whether you’re a connoisseur of fine wines or just want to learn a little bit more about the vino you’re drinking, upcoming classes offered by a McKinney winery offer you the chance to try some of the best wine in North Texas in a fun and educational environment.
For a little more than a year now, Lone Star Wine Cellars, located in downtown McKinney, has been offering intimate wine classes that cover everything from how to pair the perfect cheese and wine together to what popcorn to make with wine.
The family business, which opened in 2003 in McKinney and has roots in wine that go back to the early 1900s, now has plans to offer a few wine classes every month, including fun holiday themes coming up this Fall.
Peyton Anders, who is a marketing specialist with Lone Star Wine Cellars, was looking for ways to bring new ideas to downtown McKinney after starting with the company in May 2021.
After discovering there weren’t any wine and cheese classes being offered by nearby wineries or cooking schools, she jumped at the opportunity. And it worked.
“There are 50-plus wineries in North Texas and I couldn’t find any that were regularly offering wine and food pairing classes, so we thought, why not give it a shot,” she said. “And they were a hit right away. I couldn’t even market the events because they were filling up so fast. We clearly had demand for this idea.”
