At this year’s Annual Women’s Business Conference, hosted by the McKinney Chamber’s Women’s Alliance of McKinney, keynote speaker Dr. Froswa’ Booker-Drew delivered a powerful message on the theme: “Your Network is Your Net Worth.”
Dr. Booker-Drew encouraged attendees to think about their ecosystem of support—reminding them that connections are more than professional tools; they are buffers against stress and a fundamental human need. She emphasized that at the core of social capital is trust, and challenged the audience to be more intentional about building and nurturing their relationships.
She shared that there are different types of social capital—information capital, favor capital, and reputational capital—and posed an important question: How are you a resource in your community that others can tap into?
Among her key lessons:
-
You are already wealthy in the relationships you cultivate. Lean into the value of bonding and bridging social capital.
-
Build your network intentionally through investing in connections that align with your values, but don’t miss out on real connections because of perceptions. It’s about making time to connect and listen.
-
Know your story to connect better with others. Remember, you attract who you are. Invest in building you.
Dr. Booker-Drew emphasized that relationships increase efficiency, foster co-creation, and ultimately open doors that might otherwise remain closed. “What feeds you is going to be the thing that leads you,” she shared, encouraging women to invest in themselves as much as they invest in others.
Beyond her keynote, Dr. Booker-Drew addressed meaningful questions about allyship, mentorship, navigating challenging work environments, and the importance of intergenerational wisdom.
