MRT is partnering with AMT to present the North Texas premiere of “National Pastime”, a fast-paced musical comedy by Tony Sportiello and Al Tapper set in 1930s Iowa about a small-town radio station saved by broadcasting games for a fake, undefeated baseball team. Filled with toe-tapping numbers, laughter, and nostalgic charm.

This feel-good show runs October 3–4, 10–11, and 17–18, 2025, at the Courtroom Theater, McKinney Performing Arts Center.

Thanks to a generous grant from H-E-B, students can see National Pastime for free. This initiative reflects MRT’s commitment to fostering a love for the arts among young audiences and providing educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Watching National Pastime gives students a fun and engaging look at life in the 1930s during the great depression, the golden age of radio, and America’s favorite pastime—baseball. With its witty humor, lively music, and themes of creativity, teamwork, and perseverance, the show is a perfect springboard for conversations about history, storytelling, and the importance of thinking outside the box.
