The McKinney Senior Services Alliance (SSA), part of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, is a group of businesses and professionals dedicated to serving the senior community and their families by connecting them with essential support and information.
Each year, they select a non-profit that serves the senior community. This year, SSA is partnering with Meals on Wheels Collin County (MOWCC) to provide support for their programs, promote their mission and message, and encourage volunteering. The SSA is honored to work with Dr. Deron Byers, Director of Fundraising.
“Meals on Wheels Collin County has become an integral part of our community, delivering vital sustenance and companionship to those in need. With unwavering dedication and a passionate team of volunteers, the organization now serves an impressive average of 1,000 meals per day. This achievement stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of Meals on Wheels Collin County to its mission, ensuring that older adults in our community receive the nourishment and care they need and deserve.”

The first project for this new partnership is Spring Boxes of Hope, part of the MOWCC Community Call to Action Program. These are decorated boxes with shelf-stable food and essential hygiene items. These special boxes will be delivered to clients in early April to help with needs between meal deliveries. The members of SSA will be filling and donating boxes this month.
MOWCC is still in need boxes, food and hygiene items, and volunteers to help with deliveries on April 12. Volunteers are also needed for unloading, loading, and quality checks. Background check required.

In a recent meeting with the Meals on Wheels staff, Queen Ellison, Director of Community Engagement, shared this with the SSA:
“At Meals on Wheels Collin County, community engagement is the heart of our mission. Every meal delivered is more than nourishment—it’s a connection, a lifeline, and a reminder that we are stronger together. Through volunteers, partnerships, and outreach, we unite to serve, support, and uplift our seniors. Join us in making a lasting impact—one meal, one smile, one neighbor at a time.”
The need for MOW services is exploding, and they need 50 new volunteers each month to keep up with the demand. Volunteers continue to be their greatest need, and that’s where you can help with prepping, packaging, and delivering meals. In 2024, they had 17,000 new clients, and 8500 of those were food insecure. They don’t turn anyone away, and there are no requirements to receive their services.
If you, your business, or your organization are interested in volunteering, you can find all the details at https://www.mealsonwheelscc.org/volunteer.
