At McKinney Rotary on December 13th, 2024, Rep. Frazier paid tribute to the late Bob Tomes. Barbara and Brandon Tomes were presented with a resolution by Rep. Frazier that commemorated the life of their family member and a Texas flag that flew over the Texas Capitol in his honor
Bob Tomes, a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of McKinney since 1983, exemplified service and philanthropy. A Paul Harris Fellow+4, he extended the honor to family members and served as Rotary President (1990-1991), Club Secretary, and Sergeant of Arms, enriching meetings with historical insights. Recognized alongside his wife Barbara as McKinney’s Citizens of the Year in 1991, Bob also led Bob Tomes Ford to earn Large Business of the Year in 2001 and Baylor University’s Texas Large Family Business of the Year in 2018.
His impact extended beyond business. Bob received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, served as Chairman of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, and held roles with the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and numerous local boards. He was instrumental in supporting local organizations like the McKinney Education Foundation, Samaritan Inn, and ManeGait.
A true adventurer, Bob co-founded the McKinney Corps of Discovery in 1999, undertaking 19 global expeditions, including a Mount Kilimanjaro summit. Bob’s life was defined by leadership, community dedication, and a spirit of exploration that leaves a lasting legacy.
