Amy Kinkade, McKinney’s new parks and recreation director, began her role with the city on March 11, according to a news release.
Kinkade brings more than 25 years of municipal government experience to the role. The announcement comes following the appointment of previous Parks and Recreation Director Michael Kowski as the president and CEO of the McKinney Economic Development Corp. in August.

Prior to joining the staff in McKinney, Kinkade served as the assistant director of parks and recreation for the city of Irving.
Her role there included managing a $21 million operating budget and over 140 parks employees, the release states. She also contributed to the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for that department, including executing various park enhancements and constructing new recreational facilities.
She also has experience managing large-scale events in the city of Grapevine, including GrapeFest and Main Street Fest.
Kinkade holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure studies from the University of North Texas. She is also affiliated with multiple parks and recreation professional organizations, including the National Recreation and Parks Association.
