The University Interscholastic League announced its 2024-26 district realignments Feb. 1, which determines each Texas high school’s athletic conference for the next two years.
The released alignments are for volleyball, basketball and football. Alignments for all other events will be released in spring 2024, according to UIL.
The background
UIL classifies schools into conferences based on enrollment. Conference 6A includes high schools with more than 2,275 students. Conference 5A includes high schools with between 1,315-2,274 students enrolled.
The details
MISD’s 6A alignments are consistent between football, volleyball and basketball. McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School are in District 6 with Allen, Plano, Plano East, Plano West, Princeton, Prosper and Rock Hill high schools.
McKinney North High School will compete in District 9 of Conference 5A for volleyball and basketball. The school may play Anna, Denison, Greenville, Lucas Lovejoy, Melissa, Walnut Grove and Sherman high schools.
Football conferences are split into two divisions for 1-5A schools. McKinney North will compete in District 5 of Division 1 with Frisco’s Centennial, Heritage, Lebanon Trail, Lone Star, Reedy, Wakeland high schools, as well as Sherman High School.
