The McKinney City Council approved two measures at their meeting on Tuesday that could make housing more affordable in the city.

The council approved the creation of a public facility corporation and the development of a land trust process that will help first-time homebuyers get into affordable homes.

Janay Tieken, director of housing and community development for the city of McKinney said on Wednesday morning that the approvals will help families in McKinney.

“The city is grateful for the opportunity to utilize public/private partnerships under the new McKinney Public Facility Corporation to create mixed income housing for the working families of McKinney," she said. "We also look forward to working with community partners to create affordable home ownership opportunities for higher income families – 80% – 120% of Area Median Income through the Community Land Trust.”
