How Painted Tree Plans to Connect our Homes with Nature

by | May 19, 2022

In North Texas, there is no shortage of master-planned communities that boast resort-style pools and magnificent clubhouses.

Tom Woliver, who is the co-founder and president of McKinney-based Oxland Advisors, wanted Painted Tree to be something very different.

“Why do what’s already been done here? Why not create something unique?” he asked.

And unique is what Woliver, who is the developer of Painted Tree, plans to bring to his latest project, a diverse and large residential community being built in McKinney that will have its first models going up this summer.

When fully developed, Painted Tree will consist of 1,100 acres of residential development, which will include 3,400 homesites offering a variety of options like single-family homes and townhouses for sale, as well as apartments and single-family homes for lease.

It will be a community that is linked by paths and trails — up to 25 miles of them — and a 20-acre lake, trailheads and community gathering places.

And people are taking notice. The Dallas Business Journal recently named the Painted Tree project as the Best Real Estate Deal of 2021 in the Planned Community category.

After purchasing the Painted Tree property in 2020, which is located at US Highway 380 near Lake Forest Drive, just west of US Highway 75, Woliver and his team started developing a big vision for what Painted Tree could become.

“We didn’t want to come in with a name, we wanted to assemble a team and go through a workshop process together,” he said. “We looked at demographics, what the market was telling us, what the land was telling us, and that’s how the vision evolved for Painted Tree.”
