Six historic neighborhoods are having new toppers for street signs installed beginning this week.
It’s an effort by the City of McKinney to promote its distinctive historical identity and honor the neighborhoods’ unique identities.
Neighborhoods receiving the initial round of signs include the Lewisville, La Loma, Mouzon, Rockwall, Wilcox, and The Run neighborhoods.
“These are more than just signs. This is a way to honor the historic nature of these neighborhoods in the heart of our Cultural District, many of which have been in our city for generations. These markers are a way to recognize how important they are to the history and legacy of McKinney,” said Assistant City Manager Kim Flom.
The Housing and Community Development Department initiated the new street sign topper program after receiving feedback from residents during the city’s outreach as it undergoes a process of redevelopment and preservation on the East Side.
