The McKinney Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Beth Beck as the 2025 recipient of the Buzz Kolbe Leadership McKinney Scholarship, an honor that recognizes exceptional leadership potential, community commitment, and alignment with the servant-hearted values of its namesake, William “Buzz” Kolbe.
Established by Leadership McKinney Alumni in 2024, the Buzz Kolbe Scholarship celebrates the life and legacy of Buzz Kolbe, a longtime facilitator whose passion for mentorship and servant leadership helped shape the program into what it is today. The scholarship provides tuition assistance to one outstanding applicant each year who exemplifies Buzz’s dedication to personal growth, community impact, and empowering others.
This year’s recipient, Beth Beck, is a powerhouse of service and innovation. A former NASA strategist, Beth spent years using storytelling to connect space exploration to everyday lives, particularly highlighting the contributions of women in science. Today, she continues to inspire and empower through MillHouse, a women-focused creative coworking space in downtown McKinney. As the founder and CEO, Beth has transformed MillHouse into a vibrant ecosystem where women can discover their potential, launch their businesses, and build community with purpose.
“Beth embodies what this scholarship is all about,” said Jessica Rattan, Selection Committee Chair. “Her life is a masterclass in servant leadership. She doesn’t just lead – she lifts others as she climbs. The way she uses her platform to empower women and cultivate community is exactly the kind of legacy Buzz Kolbe would have been proud to support.”
From launching national initiatives at NASA to mentoring local entrepreneurs, Beth’s leadership journey reflects a deep commitment to personal growth and social impact. Her application stood out not only for its clarity of vision, but for her consistent, grassroots dedication to making McKinney better for everyone.
“We’re thrilled to support Beth’s continued growth through Leadership McKinney,” said Barb Delk, Business Development Director and Leadership McKinney program director from the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. “Her work aligns beautifully with the spirit of this scholarship, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to impact the class and our community.”
As she begins her Leadership McKinney journey, Beth joins a long line of civic-minded leaders dedicated to shaping the future of McKinney. Her story is a powerful reminder that true leadership doesn’t start with a title—it starts with a heart for others.
