Katie’s Bio

My name is Katie Duncan, and I am currently serving as a summer intern with the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. This past May, I graduated from Collin College’s Health Information Management program, where I also earned my Certificate of Completion in Medical Coding and Billing. I plan to continue going to Collin to get my Bachelors of Applied Science in Clinical Operations Management.

During my time in the Health Information Management program, I discovered a passion for working with data to solve problems. I am currently preparing to take the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam and look forward to beginning my career in the Health Information Management field. As I begin my career, I am excited to explore different areas of Health Information Management and collaborate with others to improve healthcare processes and outcomes.

In addition to my internship, I work at Gather on the Square, an event venue in Downtown McKinney that was recently acquired by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. I have worked at the venue since 2020 and currently serve as the Senior Event Host. In this role, I work closely with clients to create memorable events, ensuring every detail is carefully planned and executed. Through this experience, I have developed strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Working in the event industry has taught me the importance of adaptability, attention to detail, and effective communication, skills that I know will benefit me throughout my professional career. I especially enjoy meeting with clients and helping bring their vision to life.

When I am not working or studying, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, whether we are out exploring new places or simply enjoying each other’s company. As an avid coffee lover, I love discovering local coffee shops around the McKinney area and revisiting my favorite spots. In my downtime, I also enjoy drawing and practicing basic calligraphy, which has become a creative outlet that helps me relax and unwind while catching up on a favorite show.

My internship with the McKinney Chamber of Commerce has provided valuable insight into the many ways the Chamber supports local businesses and strengthens the McKinney community. I have enjoyed learning how each department contributes to the Chamber’s mission. As I begin my career, I am excited to combine the knowledge and skills I have gained through my education, experience at Gather on the Square, and my internship with the Chamber.

We’re proud to support the next generation of professionals and can’t wait to see the impact Katie and LaRysha make this summer.
